WBC recently delivered its Introduction to Oil & Gas Finance course for a fast‑growing upstream operator in the Middle East. The three‑day programme brought together colleagues from across the organisation for a practical and engaging learning experience. It helped participants build confidence around financial topics and encouraged stronger collaboration across teams.
The client wanted to raise financial capability across a broad group that included operations, projects, HSE, subsurface, procurement, commercial, HR and finance. Many participants were non‑finance professionals, and the company recognised the importance of giving teams a shared view of how financial decisions influence performance and long‑term value.
WBC designed and delivered a customised course tailored to the client’s operating environment, including regional finance norms and PSC/JOA requirements. The programme blended clear explanations with industry‑relevant examples and hands‑on exercises covering project economics, budgeting, cost control, financial statements and risk management. The atmosphere was positive throughout, with participants quickly engaging in discussions and linking the tools to their day‑to‑day responsibilities.
One of the strongest aspects of the course was cross‑functional interaction. Participants compared perspectives, raised practical challenges and explored how their choices affect financial outcomes across the business. By the end of the programme, teams had developed a more consistent language for discussing financial issues and a clearer sense of how to support the organisation’s strategic and commercial goals.
